Hacked Steam Account?

I think my STEAM account was hacked earlier today... lol

I got home from work and wanted to play some CSS, but when I tried connecting, I noticed I was logged out (which I've never done before). So I attempted logging back into Steam, and got an incorrect password prompt. After a couple more attempts (thought I might have made a typo), I used the password recovery thing that's supposed to send an e-mail asking for your secret question, and now, several hours later, still haven't received an e-mail. So I'm thinking someone must have somehow gotten a hold of a my password, changed it, and changed the e-mail address associated with the account. Is there actually a way to do that? I figure it was either hacked, or the e-mail just takes a long time to get to where it's going (even though I never changed my password...)

Anyone know anything about this process? I mean, if someone does have my account info (and changed it), is there a way to get it back? Is it even worth the trouble? All I play on Steam is CSS, and it's only 20 bucks... I guess it's the principle of the thing.

I just found out several other members of Reverse had their accounts hacked in the last couple of days as well. I don't know why (or even if) we're being specifically targeted, but it's not unreasonable to think the hacker might be a SpawnPoint user.

The guy who got mine was using a friend's account, which he got by using yet another Reverse member's account. The one thing he had in common was using the following message. This was taken by a respected friend a few days ago, who was smart enough to realize what was going on. I deleted the name the hacker was using because we know it wasn't the person he was pretending to be.

Bottom line, be careful, because we don't know for sure if he's going after just us, or the only other thing we all have in common - SpawnPoint users. Figured this is a huge community, maybe I can save someone a lot of hassle down the road.

Thanks for clearing this up. It was env's account that was also hacked. I received the same message from both you and him so I assumed something fishy was up.

I think the only way to get it back is if you have proof of purchase or your cdkey. I believe at least 3-4 of the people on my STEAM friends have had this happen so it has been a nuisance. Whomever it is they say the same thing of

Yeah, I got that message from a guy posing as enV earlier this morning. He contacted rdl as a guy in >AFK< clan.

If you can't click on a link in STEAM don't copy and paste it lol.
I do think I will be getting mine back within a week as to how the conversation with a STEAM guy has gone quite well.


on the other hand, I removed my admin but I am still "pending removal"...
Is there a way you can just transfer them to my new STEAM id or just put it on a hiatus.

I changed my STEAM id in my profile to try to re-apply for admin.

I almost fell for this too .

I've removed Carlo's and Assyrian's admin and put their accounts on the ban list as a precautionary measure. Once you've got control of your account back, let me know and I'll restore your admin and remove you from the ban list.

If anyone gets their account stolen let us know, either by posting or sending a PM to myself or another staff member, let us know how you lost it. Don't be embarrassed, it's easily done and you can prevent others for falling for the same trick.

Admins, if your account gets hijacked then please let us know immediately by emailing abuse@spawnpoint.com.

Like...OMG!!!! I got the same thing yesterday from Env and DotZ (Assyrian)...they (although I know it wasn't them now) sent me a link and asked me if I knew the girl in the link. I clickied on the link and it asked me for my steam sign in info (name and password) I didn't do it. I messaged them back that I wasn't signing in. I guess I was lucky!

a similair thing happened to me on msn, mate said to me, something like

Hey is this a picture of you ( then some random link )

got a virus from the link :/

had to wipe the hard drive

Some1 sent one to my mate, and the virus made it spread to all his contacts online..

Not Fun...

Its not just steam, any Instant messaging service at all, can be used for said viruses / scams.
