Admin for Dummies
A few simple guidelines

I have noticed, that in the last couple of weeks, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of Admins on the SPAWNPOINT Source servers. I have taken note of the work of maybe 10-15 different Admins in two of the servers I play in, and have come to the conclusion; half of them don’t know what they are doing a lot of the time.
Why am I writing about this? It doesn’t concern me yes, but I don’t see anybody else doing it, so I figured I might as well take a whack at it. There are quite a few guidelines to follow when you are babysitting a server, More often then not these guidelines are not followed, and I am writing this to attempt to correct this.

General Rules

No cheating
No racism
No inappropriate sprays (Pornographic sprays for example)
No inappropriate names (SUCK_MY_C….. for example)
No spamming (Grenades, Text, Microphone, Voice commands .etc)
Respect all other players, including Admins
No map glitch exploits (cs_assault glitch for example) [ul][/ul]


There are some unwritten rules also, in my opinion

Correct use of ma_say
Some Admins tend to overuse this command. They use it to talk to their buddies on the server, to talk to each other, and so on. This command is supposed to use used to send a message to all players, or to warn a player. It is not a conversation command, that is what normal ‘say’ is for.
I have seen it countless times: two Admins chatting to each other using ma_say. This has got to be annoying to the players in the server. It bugs the crap out of me anyway. It is particularly bad when two or more Admins are arguing with each other using ma_say. What do you think that looks like to the players in the server? All they see is a server with a bunch of Admins that don’t get along with each other. This is not helping the reputation of Spawnpoint.

Warning players
In my opinion, the warning system goes as follows.
Warn, Warn, Warn, Slap with damage, Slay,Kick, Kick, Temp ban, Permanent ban
Where I start in the warn system depends on how badly a rule is broken.

Werd, I think you should always keep in mind that you are there to make sure everyone is having a good time by moderating the server,
not ruin everyones game by turning people into beacons and slapping the hell out ofpeoplein an attempt toruin their game for your own amusement.

Admin abuse is overrated. I prefer what I have come to call "Warrented Admin-Abuse"

Warrented Admin-Abuse is a good thing, if used properly.

If a player is disrupting the server in some severe way, and pretty much everyone is begging to kick him or ban him, I commence my Warrented Admin-Abuse on this player (after several failed warnings of course)

Lighting an abusive player on fire, for example, won't only help to stop his behavior, saving himself a ban, but it will also give a sence of vengence to the other players who are sick of this person. They will all laugh, call him a noob, that sort of thing. This formally abusive player is now at his lowest point. He is weak, defensless, shamed. Too ashamed to say he is sorry. Normally they won't leave right awayif you abuse them either, because then they know you win, and they don't want that.

You shouldONLY do this if you had original plans to kick or temp ban this player,and ONLY to severe offenders.Do NOT do it to players with minor offenses like Camping or an accidental Team Flash. That is normal Admin-Abuse, not Warrented Admin-Abuse.

Nice read, I think I will send a mass email out to all the current admins, referring to this post.

Also, some admins are going to be released due to inactivity, if your not admin'ng your disignated servers for more then two weeks.
You can expect to be removed from the admin list.

I could type out a more extended file, explaining in detail the levels of sevarity on all of the rules, if you like. That is what this post was originally going to contain, but it would have been 3 pages long in 12pt font

hey i just read all the rule long but .. i can make it im 24 year old i dont abuse of power
i will like to admin a server my Ratio is 2.10 i play alot on Cs if you alway need admin tell me tanks

Mr_Me_II, very nice post on admin for dummies. Received your original post and addtional information on admin responsibilities and guidelines from Starlog. Learned addtional points from you post and it isdefinitely a worth while read.

I am surprised to see that admins use the ma_say as a chat on the server. I agree it's totally inappropriate. The admin green text stands out and I only use it to get players' attention on the server.
