Admin abuse

There have been a couple of players (not regulars) lately that have had some VERY offensive names and can seem to do nothing else but swear and say some really offensive things to our regulars. I asked them to stop using the amx_say chat so that they knew I was admin and it got worse.
I then used the slap (no damage), also no change in his attitude, then the kick command. The player came back and continued so I used the amx_csay to tell him if it didnt stop, he would be banned for 30min. He finally then stopped so I left him alone. Should I have just ignored this? I always put stuff like new maps and other similar issues to a vote. Lets hear some of your thoughts.

Dont take any crap. Usualy slaying or a kick after asking them to please change their name..is called for. When I am asked why do I want the name changed (they usually do ask) I tell them we have young people playing also. I'm not afraid to say please more then once but if they get out of line...Your the Admin....take action.

Ultimately, you can't allow yourself to take any crap. Just as the Ancient One said. Even if it seems like a small thing that you are warning a person about, if they ignore you, it becomes a bigger thing. If I may take an analogy from real life: When an officer tries to pull someone over to warn them because they have a tail-light out, what would ordinarily not be a big deal becomes a crime whenthepeople aformentionedtry to outrun thecop and resist arrest.

Thanks for your guy's responses....I am a relatively new admin and just wanted to make sure how much slack to cut players. I have played under some really abusive admins before and didnt want to be seen as one myself.I was just checking to see ifthere was suppose to be a certain amout ofslack cut players on the PHXX servers. I will continue to be fair but the loudmouth, profane jerks will either have to clean it up or go cry on a different server. (unless, of course, they like to be "slapped, slayed, kicked or banned" ......grins)

My personal thoughts on this sort of subject, is the fact there is a big M on the box when you buy it. M for Mature. If you can't handle Mature content, then go to a different server. I understand that there has to be some guidelines to this, racial slandering, obscure profanity, you get the drift, but get over it. The more you prolong the problem in the server, the more people want to leave and not come back. Take care of it quickly, and be on with your fraggin'.

as a footnote, the people I was talking about, (only 2 of them) ...if they didn't come back to the server it would be a good thing. By offensive I am talking about racial, very nasty profane and complete crass dissing (you know the kind) of one of the female regulars. I realize that this is an "M" game but mature also needs to include player's conduct I think.

I'm a relatively new admin also. Players on the server I admin pretty much are well behaved with some exceptions. Any offensive names are sometimes screened out by the server. Player would then log on under different name and change to offensive tag. I ask them politely to change and to date none have refused. Yes, expletives are used during game play; however, if a player starts to verbally abuse or text abuse other players I warn them once maybe twice. I would ma_csay "RESPECT FELLOW PLAYERS OR BE KICKED/BANNED". That usually works and explain players are logged on to have fun and shouldn't leave server all pissed off. I haven't bothered using the slap thing. I have muted couple players for abusing the mic capability. No one should be abused either verbally or via text on server by anyone!
I haven't banned any players other than for hacking so far. Regular players on server know what my standards are and I think they appreciate that. Good luck to you!
