Tragedy in Norway

A little bit of a shock. Norway, in my mind, is a very peaceful country and, given the circumstances, it's even making me feel uneasy in my country - Canada.

A little background: Last Friday, a car bomb exploded outside of the ministry offices in Oslo, the capital of Norway. A few hours later, the mastermind behind the bombings opened fire on teenagers at a Political Camp. In Oslo, 8 people were confirmed dead, on the island, as much as 86.

Norway typically has a maximum 21 year sentence, but the guy behind the bombings and the shootings is expected to receive more. He posted a manefesto online a few days before which targetted Muslims among other minorities that he beleived "didn't belong in Norway."

Tradegy in Norway

I thought the most ironic part was where everybody was so so quick to lay the blame on Islam and Muslims, when in fact, they were the target. I still don't entirely understand why he would target Muslims by using innocent Norwegians as his political medium, and the fact that he posed as an officer and murdered teenagers one by one would suggest he has some serious mental handicaps.

Instead of terrifying the foreign population of Norway, he terrorized the indigenous population, supposedly in an effort to push reform I see. The response from Norways police services was also hardly mediocre, a hour and a half response time to the resort island, which, if carried out correctly with the resources that should have been available 24/7, 365, should have taken 20 minutes. In all it was an absolutely disgusting act from a seriously mislead individual, but you can never read too much into these stories.

I'll go out on a limb, but often times the policies and directives carried out by the state, when truely understood by an individual who has every reason to disagree with them, creates hatred on an uncomprehensible level. Its a shame that this was the way he chose to grab the worlds attention, and I'd expect it to become more common. If you fear it, the assailant wins, if you don't fear it, the state wins. Its a lose/lose situation for us.

I don't intend to offend anybody with that last parting bit, and Norway has my condolences....

I'm going to Oslo in November.

Does anyone know if the Government building will need to be demolished?

If so I reckon they should erect a monument to the dead and injured there instead...some place where people can come and sit and pay their respects to the dead
