"Avatar" the Movie
Posted: Oct 24, 2009, 03:03:47
Was checking out some upcoming movie trailers and came across Avatar. Strongly suggest viewing the trailer first, then reading the review. If you haven't heard anything about yet all you need to know up front is it's about a solider who lost the ability to walk, and was given a new life, so to speak..
Trailer first, Watch Avatar Trailer 1 - Online Video Guide
Review next, Avatar: a first review of footage from James Cameron's 3D space opera | Ben Child | Film | guardian.co.uk
When you've watched and read please post back with your thoughts. Personally, I've never seen anything like it, or been so impressed by a trailer where only three words were spoken and so many concepts were touched on.
This is great.

I've been waiting on this movie for sometime.....Cameron changed the plot mid way through which moved the relaese date back from May to an anticipated date of 19th December over here....
Definite Christmas box office number one methinks.....can't wait

Yeah I'm also looking forward to seeing this one, only thing is I've got to travel 40 miles to the nearest cinema that can show it in 3D. :cursing:
There's some stereographic images from the film over here if you want to see them.

Sorry poo, should've thought to check if anyone else had started a thread. Anyway, I also look forward to checking this out. Of interest to me are the intense special effects for the jungle. Reminds me of the old SpawnPoint graphics used a few years back. And again, the number of concepts -- space travel, other life forms, the transfer of life force from one being to another, and the human creation of what appears to be a warrior/savior of an occupied alien world -- occupied by humans. Lot's of eye candy and depth in what the short trailer reveals. Good stuff.

Looks like there's going to be a new trailer for the movie, and it's being broadcast during network NFL coverage.

Looks like it's on FOX, around 12:50p.

i thought this movie looked somewhat retarded when i first saw the preview, but the more i look at it, the more visually dazzling it looks, and the story sounds like it is getting better and better to me, i cant wait now, 2012 also looks sweet

Went to check this out today, and while it's certainly a new experience visually, the "Avatar" concept along with the new CGI/3D effects, would have been better served had they spent some of the $240M on the story line. Basic good vs evil theme, technology is the bad guy and the tree hugging natives are the spiritually enlightened good folks.
The special effects really are special, and the star of the flick isn't any actor, rather the representation of the planet Pandora steals the show. And you gamer's won't be disappointed, lot's of good scenes with death, destruction, and stuff blowing up. But, I couldn't help but feel walking out the the theater that they could have done more so much more, seemed a bit shallow while trying hard to be deep.
They also do some interesting things with their tails, but I'll leave that to your imagination.

I have seen the movie, and it has officially bumped first place on my all time favorite movies. I was completely blown away by it. The story is great, the characters are original, and you really get to feel who they are. The special effects were stunning, and realistic, not CGI gone wrong like other movies have. It's a deep, action filled, beautiful movie. I want to see it in theaters again and again until it's off. If you can, go see it in 3D! it's crazy!

Heard this morning on the news that the movie has moved ahead of Titanic and is now the highest grossing film in history.
Agreed Saphire, I've seen it four times and not tired of it yet, see something new each time. It's not all that deep, not as deep as it could've been, but the balance between the story line and the action is well done.
Anyone thinking of seeing a flick ---> GO SEE THIS MOVIE !!!
