Forum?
Posted: Feb 6, 2009, 23:25:39
Is it me or is the forum a bit of a ghost town these days?
No reports in the RAI, no nothing :(
Maybe because of the big update people are having time away?

The problem I've always saw with the forums is there's no requirement for anyone to post on the forums.....even admins.
So you have a corps of about 140 or so community members that don't actually need to post here.......at all
If you notice it's always been the same "core" of people who do most of the posting....if two or three of them are actively taking time off then the forums slow down.......
No posts in the RAI is a good thing in that the admins aren't causing any grief on the servers....

Quote from Raven: The problem I've always saw with the forums is there's no requirement for anyone to post on the forums.....even admins. I don't need to make a discussion out of this thread....but I don't think a post requirement is a good idea because it will lead to useless posts so that current admins can remain admins. However, I feel that admins should regularly LOG ON the forums especially on instances where they have recently banned a player. This way they can post in the RAI with thier reasoning. Additionally, I feel like the admin should be removed if they do not reply to an RAI thread within a certain time period because obviously they are not fulfilling all of the duties that come with being an admin.

Making a requirement or forcing people to post is a bad idea I think, only leading to pointless posts and replys to gain a post count or to keep your admin, making people have to check the forums is however a good idea, especially checking the RAI as that is quite often someones first point of call when they join these forums, usually with a "banned don't know why" post.
I don't understand why people don't check them anyway, your online playing the game and it takes 30 seconds to at least see if someone has moaned about you kicking them or what not. It should be made mandatory, I think, to check the forums, even if you don't post anything.
And I don't mean just logging on to the forum, there must be some way to track traffic into each section and make sure that people are doing something, which in all fairness they agreed to do when gaining admin.

Actually that's not "actually" how it works as, if an admin "logs in" to the web-site you have no way of actually knowing if they even made it to the forums :crying:
Currently and, in theory, you could log in to the front page of SpawnPoint...then log straight back out again...never even see a forum page and still keep your admin
I agree with you Rufus...but I don't think there's any way of actually checking if an admin has logged into the RAI and/or admin forums
Sigh..........

and now youve gone off topic talking about admins.
anyway, the forum is dead because barely anyone is here, and barely anyone is here because the forum is dead. you need something to drum up some interest in the forum, do some giveaways, announce game nights on the servers, something.

Actually Bishop game community forums are populated by those people who play on the community servers more than anything else....:sneaky2:
If people don't play on the servers then there is little chance they will see the adverts for our community, less chance of them wanting to come look at what we have to offer, less chance of them joining and even less chance of posting....:crying:
If you check who it is that mostly logs onto the "forums" it's mainly those who are already admins or those who want to be admins.
The download / mirror section generates a lot of traffic but not of the "Posting / Community Member" type.
We do announce game nights.. there's even a section of the forums dedicated to them.....but that won't generate forum traffic
Again "Giveaways" are a good idea but, unless you are already a community member you've little chance of seeing / finding out about them.
Taking away the zero post members and suchlike we probably have a good base of 200 - 300 community members that are staff / admins / regulars if each of them was to make ONE post in a week (and you can't tell me that there aren't enough forum topics for people to get involved with) then forum traffic would go up expotentially as posts lead to replies leading to other posts etc etc.
However, we don't have any necessity to post on the forums, and, arguably, this might well lead to spam....or so numerous people keep stating
It seems to me that the only time forums get busy is when someone gets confrontational or some huge breaking news story on the community surfaces.
And Sapphy how can you have nothing to say when you work on the editorial staff.....I thought you writers always had something to say :thumbup1:

I.E. "Watch this space" That had lots going on in it but news seems to have stopped on that, sadly. Speaking of which is there any more news.:confused1:
Personally i think it is getting quieter but from my experiance last year it was quiet at christmas time from what i remember. and it starts getting busier again 2 months after christmas. This is just from what i remember.
i personally only post when i see it is necersary i dont post in the forum games maybe image wars when i see something worth while. Though i am not really a talker.
I dont see anything wrong with the forum and i feel there is no problem with not many RAI's because an RAI usually means that people either havent made it fully clear on why something happened to that person, or the complainer just wants to try and cause trouble because they dont like what happened.
But dont worry because spawnpoint 4.5 will no doubt make a huge difference. Just give it till next month and it will be busy again no doubt.

I'm on the forums 2 to 3 times a day and I check just about every new post and new topics. Some of them just don't suit my taste and I don't want to make spam so I just read and keep going. But Raven is right is you go to topics most of the people who post are all admin and staff related not many "regulars" out there.

Ive just been dead busy recently. New born baby, 3 year old starting to really hit his naughty stage. So its been all go around my way. Plus we lost the internet for a while. Thats my excuse for my absence. I dont think people should be stripped for not coming on daily. I like to get on here first thing when i log onto the net and last thing as i log off. And straight after i play css. But some days/weeks im just unable to do so!
Things will pick up, i dont need to remind anyone what a great community this is and how cool everyone here is! Just keep on truckin!
And betrayed... You do need to get a life ... :p LOL!
EDIT: By stripped, i mean stripped of admin, not stripped of clothing. I definatley think people should be stripped of clothing for not coming on. But i think id deliberatley stay away, just to be naked a lot! ....oh so tired.

LOL,
No one mentioned losing admin if you don't come on every day
And Rufus, as I've stated many times....people had to post before they got admin so why do you think they'd spam post now they have admin?

Yeah, I check the forums pretty much everyday. It's just that I'm the type who doesn't have much to say, I just post something when it feels necessary for someone to hear my input; I enjoy reading what other people have to say =)
