Default Phishing for you ID and password***NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR STEAM PASSWORD!***

Well folks, some fool just tried to phish for my steam information using steam friends chat.
It was something to the effect of multiple ip's detected or something and that the account was in danger of being shut down....It actually looked halfway legit. It wanted my account name and password to verify I was the correct user. This made me immediately suspisious. I assumed that it was automated and imagine my surprisewhen "the steam update team" actually aswered me when I said "why would that matter"? After some technical sounding BS, he said to verify that my account hadn't been hijacked (lol the nerver there) that I would need to enter my user name and password. After I told them that right at the top of their communication it said "don't give your password out to anyone" and that he would have to prove to me that he was who he said he was, he typed some other BS about being on the steam trusted list. I said I needed to verify and he amazing was gone....
Hopefully none of you have fallen prey to this scam. Steam, I am told, would never contact you in this fashion. Take the steam advice at the top of chat and never give out your password.

Someone tried to tell me he was with Steam Support or something like that and that there was a problem with my account and that he needed to review it. I thought it was legit until he said I needed to log out after I give him my name and password. What an idiot. Like that's not obvious.

You mean your steam username, not steam ID. My steam name is flashdog68 and my steam ID looks like this
STEAM_0:1:234567
When you log on, you use your steam username.
If you have a "friends" list, ask one of them as they will have added you and might know that. You will have to know your own password though. No one should have that.

Default Scammers are getting pretty good lol.

I recently had a guy add me on friends
telling me he was Admin of Disputes
and that i needed to have my account scanned because it was suspected of hacking
He must do this alot because it defiantly sounded legit
I told him i was reading the policy and he told me i was being banned for a year if i did not comply,
Then he told me i would get another 3 months added for not reading the policy
I asked for proof but he gave me none I placed a ticket on steam asking if this was bs or not
And they replied that they will never ask you for your steam account or password ever.

I completely Agree You should never give out your Steam ID and Password b/c the same thing happened to me until he said I couldn't change my name to his in which I did and he tried playing dumb saying that it didn't work when I could see it coming up as his name.

Its like this with every online game, never give your password. Even if theres something wrong and you think you are talking to a guy from "suport", they will never ask for your password, and those who do ask ain't the real thing and just wants to take your account.

Default same has happen to me

When i used to smoke weed, one time i was stone and there this automated steam chat that asked me for my account and i have talked to him for like 30 min and finally gave him, so he hijacked me, good thing i had bought my account tru a credit card so i got it back ez in like a week.

BUt there is an other thing, like 3 week ago my friend was on irc and a false chanserv posted to him when he enter to a chan ( like a greeting) a strategic book or something , it was a link. A .exe, my friend is not very good with this stuff so he installed it thinking it was the book with trick, but it was a key logger, so he got hickaked. NEVER install a .exe if your not 100% sure of what it is :-P , my friend got unlucky he havent been able to find proof of where he bought it, so he just lost his 7 digit.
