Cannot connect to a CS:S server

Hi.

A friend of mine cannot connect to any cs:s server.

He is able to see servers via steam (when not in game and you check serverlist)

but when he tries to connect to a server it is sating "connection" and then failed after 4 retries.

We have tried to shutdown firewall and antivirus, also it is to be noticed that 3 weeks ago he was able to play cs:s but not suddenly a week ago he was not able to join cs:s server


Anyone who can help to get this solved?

Hey Dash, has your friend checked if his internet provider has had any major changes, like closing ports, or using proxies or any similar changes, because there effects can easily disrupt connection to servers, and gaming hosts. Speaking about proxies, another reason may be because he is running steam / c:ss through some sort of proxy (a means of bypassing your direct internet settings/rules). Or perhaps it's just a simple router problem... The possibilities are endless, literally, but fortunately some old wise words of advice may help; trial and error is key. Just keep trying everything, till you eventually hook onto the issue causing this problem. Else, in the words of my father, you're buggered x) I hope you sort the problem, all the best mate.

The only solution i can think of is to make sure his game is upto date, right click on the game in his library go onto properties then updates and make sure automatic updates is set to "Always keep this game up to date"

Or he could go for the old deleting the clientregistry.blob which is found at C:\Program Files\Steam

Other than that i don't know.

It is not his internet provider that is the problem, n0r the router i think.

because when he is at my place he still cannot connect to any cs:s server. and i am sitting next to him, and everything works for me...


I am thinking.. does any special ports on your computer have to be forwarded in order to play css online?

Is he VAC banned or something?

Port are handled by the router - so it must be something local. Again, I'm inclined to believe that there is an issue with a firewall or a virus program.

he is not vacbanned. i am pretty sure it is his PC which is the problem.. but cannot track down the exact problem :/

Try this; in console type in (without quotes) "Connect 76.74.239.31:27015"
This'll connect you to our Crackhouse server, If this doesn't work i would try verifying the game cache and see if something went wrong with the installation.
