Report an Incident

I realize that y'all do not want the peanut gallery jumping into the "report an incident" threads, but can we make dummy versions in another section? I almost always have an opinion about it and have to remind myself to not post. I guess what I am getting at is that some of the issues presented would be fun to debate out, such as admins abusing powers in the thread Raven just closed between Gatsu and another guy.

The main reason, I'm told, that SpawnPoint does not want non-staffers and those not involved posting in the Report an Incident section is because ignorant people who wish to provide their say-so often post ignorant things. Some people may come into the forums, see how the ignorant person responded, and assume that's how things are always ran around here. That's bad.

Another reason is because "flaming" often occurs when everyone wishes to pitch in their "two cents." Flaming is bad as well. It makes SpawnPoint look as if it isn't in control of what goes on within their forums. No one is going to play on the servers of a company that can't even keep order in its forums, are they?

Starting a new forum for "dummy versions" would make SpawnPoint's current safeguards irrelevant, in my opinion.

Wow! Greenblaster was actually listening! lol A lot of our policies are not up for debate. Dealing with admin abuse or other problems is Spawnpoint's and the people involved business. Debating what people think should happen to players or admins is not constructive. I believe that we generally do a great job and try very hard to be fair and consistant. Any suggestions you would like considered that don't have a specific forum for can be emailed to .

It's quite funny but a lot of people don't actually take the time to read ALL the sticky posts at the top of each forum section before they progress with posting.

A LOT of policy and suchlike are quite clearly present in those "stickies" as well as here clicky

I'd recommend that people read up on all the forum stickies and take notes on the things they reckon are important.

Someone once posted that it's quite "depressing" that the Report an Incident forums have the second most threads in it. Perhaps if people took the time to READ Spawnpoints important information and server rules and guidelines it would greatly reduce the number of "Issues" that the staff have to deal with.

It's nice to see Greenblaster finally understanding the reasons we (Spawnpoint) try to avoid the "my two cents" policy. YOUR "two cents" may be very different to Spawnpoints "two cents".

Dwinx the reasons for locking down threads like the Gatsurendo one is that the issue had run it's course. No side to the arguement had any proof and if you read the tones and inflections in the posts the "mud slinging" was about to begin. "He says, she says" threads serve no purpose and the information presented by myself to BOTH parties will ensure that it won't happen again.

I do understand the reasoning behind not wanting everyone to post their opinion based on what is in the stickys and thus I do not post in the report and incident section.

I was just saying I always WANT to and so I was looking for an outlet for my opinions. I certainly do not want to step on the toes of the Spawnpoint staff that has carefully thought out existing procedures. I was just tossing out the idea of having constructive debate among the peons without the mudslinging.

Aaaaaaaaand I just figured out the problem with my idea...constructive cyber debate without mudslinging...What was I thinking?

PS...I have called the forums users peons and the peanut gallery. Is there a better term for us non-staff/moderator types? For example Jim Rome has the Clones and Colin Cowherd has The Herd. Can we come up with a name for those folks who check this board multiple times a day? Food for thought.

Dwinx i'm not saying you can't have a constructive and sometimes heated debate on the forums. You just have to check out some of the "political" threads in the Rant section ;)

I (and it's purely my opinion based on experience on these forums) just feel that if a staff member / moderator reaches a particular conclusion on a "Report an Incident" forum the last thing Spawnpoint would want to see (Particularly on these forums) is a debate as to whether other people reckon that the conclusion was the right or wrong one

I think that Spawnpoint have gone out of their way to pick staff members who are both fair and impartial. We might not be able to get every situation 100% correct and not satisfy people ALL the time but we do a pretty damn good job in the whole :D

As for a better term how about "Freethinkers" as opposed to "Sheeple" ;)

See debate can be fun, constructive and informative (I had to google your US sports host guy) lol

Discussing the issues raised in some report an incident post can be useful. If you want clarification on certain rules or suggestions on how to deal with certain problems post in the admin only section, it is what it's there for.

If you're not an admin and you want to know more about certain rules or how they should be enforced I recommend the server rules and admin guide located in the servers section of the website. If you still have questions then post.

Just bear in mind that constantly going on about the same thing after a staff member has declared something closed, gets annoying after a while.

Thanks for the words of wisdom Phil. I do not want to fan the flames, just to make sure I understand what is going on and why.

::whisper:: where is the admin only section??

Dwinx,

As you are an admin on 198.11 (Perhaps people forgot) I've requested that you gain access to the admin forums :D
