I know that there are shops and mail order companies who offer a disc repair service but I'm looking to see how much a professional scratch removing device would cost (out of curiosity). If you have ever been to Gamestation and seen their 'Disc Fixer' then you know what I'm talking about, the thing looks like a PC tower and magically polishes discs.

I have no idea how much these machines cost, they may even run into several thousands...I don't have any discs that do not work but, thanks to my brother, there are some that skip. Considering the fact that I have hundreds of games and depending on the price of the machine it may be worth buying.

You know it's just a really really good buffer in there like you use on the floor or your car... or a bald mans head.

I have a hand-held cranking device that works very well. I think I got it from Sam Goody or a similar music retailer about 8 years ago. It has some liquid solution to spray on the disk and then there is a buffer that is slowely advanced by a crank. You can polish up a disk in about 2 minutes and I have been impressed by the results. I assume it only works on surface scratches, but it was a pretty minimal investment relative to cost of a dvd/game. I think I have a Skipdoctor and I just found one on Amazon for $15.

I just join the MVP program of Game Crazy once a year and it includes 5 free disk buffs with their professional level disk buffer/restorer. It worked miracles on one that my little daughter was using as a Frisbee and was unplayable....works fine now.
