Hi !
In my cstrike folder (Valve\.....\myAccount\Counter -strike Source\Cstrike, there is a folder called download in which I have for more than 500 Mb data. (only *.dat files). Can I erase these to get my Steam folder (a little lesser than 10 Gb) lighter or should I let them in peace or CSS will be corrupted ?
And by the way, what are *.mdmp files in \Counter -strike Source folder ? do you think Ireally need 10Gb data to play 99% of my time over dust2 ?

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't delete anything you're not totally sure is unnecesary. Best way to shrink your cstrike folder is to delete all the random custom maps that you don't use in the maps folder. Demos and screenshots also take up unnecessary space.

I deleted phasers comment that you can delete anything in your steam folder under "youremail@wherever.com". Hopefully no one saw that post and actually did that.

Sky, sorry I haven't had a chance to look into your question yet, but to be on the safe side I would say don't delete anything yet. If you really want to free up the space and test to see if anything in that folder is actually necessary you could create a new folder and move all the contents to it, then fire up steam and see if everything still works. But I'm going to guess that they are files that you need, at least for certain servers. I'll let you know more when I find out more.

Feel free to delete *.mdmp - these are crash dumps from if CS crashes on you.... it writes a log/info to those files.

wtf no realy wtf, do you know what i told in the post and do you know enny thing about the hl2 engine ?? if you do you wold have known that you can del enny thing in the folder of (Valve\.....\myAccount\) and not upset the working of hl2 or css. oo and next time plz read better.

that's not true. the folders and contents under the my account directory contain all the mpas, sounds, configs, and other files that are NECESSARY for the games to run.

correction, you technically COULD delete the directories and files under the my account directory, you'd just have to sit and wait forver next time you tried to run one of the games again while steam downloaded and reinstalled all of them

nop steam doesent download enny thing at all, you realy do not know enny thing about the hl2 engine.

I deleted the *.mdmp files and the game is working fine. As for the others files, I will let them in peace for the moment. Steam screw up my favorites servers so often, I don't want to crash the game on my own....

aparently I know a lot more about it than you do. considering that the files under the account directory are the GAME files, the map files, the sounds, your config, etc. How exactly do you think you play counter strike if you delete the directory that contains the game?

Phaser,

Steam creates a local game cache. This is required to play the games... If you do delete anything from this directory - steam will re-download the required files before it lets you play.

ok lissen to me this is 200 % true.

1.enny thing in the folder of your account you can delete enny thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. if you do delete something in your accout it does not download it back from steam but copy's it from the SteamApps folder.

3.why does no one believe ? ask the people at vlave, the reason thy made this is the if someone aksident delete something i wold just copy it selfe back (idiot proof) good job HL

umm, there's a couple of reasons no one believes you...

1. your spelling and grammer are such a mess it's hard to figure out what you are trying to say

2. you have no idea what you are talking about

3. the people who are correcting your misinformation are techs who know a lot more about this than you do

wel i know my spelling is a bit od but i'm from holland :P but enny why i know you uder stand me don't say you don't you do, and i know i'm right about that you can delete enny thing in you account folder and i know too that i have more knowledge then you in the engine of hl/hl2 than you ever have in your life.
so fallen1 i realy don't think you have an idea what you are talking about. i'm not trying to get you made but do some reschearch before saying that some does not what thay ar talking about.
