Chinese Prisoners Forced into MMO Gold Farming

It's been revealed that many Chinese prisoners are being forced into online "hard labor" in titles such as World of Warcraft, because it's more profitable than manual labor.

I read about that. It's pretty bizarre, but then I guess if prisons are allowed to use the prisoners to generate money for the prison it kind of makes sense.

It would be interesting to know how legal the gold farming and reselling of the gold actually is, since most MMO's forbid gold farming and reselling of in game items or currency outside of the game. It's not necessarily just an in game rule, I would expect it to be in the terms of use you sign up to when you first install the game. Kind of ironic they are being forced to do something as a punishment for breaking the law that is most likely technically illegal.
