I would head over to the official Valve Developer Community where they maintain just about all the information you need to create anything for Source games. Here is a link specifically for Level Design:
Category:Level Design - Valve Developer Community If it is your very first map build, try selecting "Building your first map in Hammer."

map creator? as in making it? well no...
Right click on steam, Community, Tools, Then Source SDK, Download it configure to Half Life:2 then open Hammer Editor then you should be ready too role, visit youtube for tutorials ect or just look around. TomM
