Hey,
Im considering buying DoD:S from what people say it seems to be a good game. What are your opinions on the game?

Fugazi,
I read in PC Gamer it was pretty good although the learning curve was slightly steeper. There's no bullet count so you have to remember how many bullet you have in reserve. Aiming is very different in that you actually have to aim down the barrel to really hit anything. Also for vehicles such as tanks, youneed a headset and mic to coordinate with other players in different tank stations to effectively use the vehicle.
I have COD2, DOOM3, and Serious Sam 2 and haven't finished or installed them because I'm busy with CSS.

Oprep you've got the wrong game buddy....
There are no vehicles in the game and you do get a reticle like in cs:s.
The guns have a toooon of recoil, especially for the assault weapons where you need a high sensitivity just to handle the high amounts of recoil.
As for the objective, it's kind of a combination of CoD2 with the weapon classes, BF2 with the flag capturing, and CS:S with the game engine. For only 20 bucks, I'd suggest it. Honestly, I think the learning curve is less because I know it takes forever to get good at Source and your skills transfer surprisingly well.

Yeah I have always been a fan of the CoD series. I cant get enough of that m1 garand.
So Its basically WW2 themed css with different objectives as opposed to css de or cs maps.
Yeah I will most likely get it. Thanks for the advice guys;)

Garand is a little different in DoD, not sure about source. The fastest it can be shot is about as fast as a deagle

theres a new gameplay style out today i think which im assuming is like DE maps on cs where the nazis have to bomb vehicles to win points. the first reply was atually talking about cod2 i think. i was hooked on this game for around about 4 months it worth the money. very easy to play if your used to playing CS and the ragdoll's are even better. im hoping they add bigger maps soon though and maybe some new things all together like vehicles

I would have to say that I have loved the game ever since I got it with my CSS package. I was kinda iffy about it when I first started because I was too used to css and cs but after a few rounds I fell in love with the game. It calls for higher strategy then the cs games but have the similar feel that makes you wanna play and play. I will definately say it is worth the buy.

Day of Defeat source is definately worth it, because there are so many improvements over the first one. The main difference between the two is that the first one had the British alliance along with a few more guns. I prefer Source though because I am a real adict when it comes to playing as the American army and everything. If you go to www.dodcustomcontent.com You can get some sweet mods for the game to change what the characters and the guns look like. Also change the sounds which improves the game play a lot. Source also gets a little more challenging because it's maps contain more hiding spots and open areas to get shot in. If you are someone who loves to snipe then I would recommend that you play Snow Bridge or one of the snow maps cause it gets intense with the level of sniper skills needed to win.

The biggest draw I have to it is the deathmatch style of gameplay, I do not have to wait for a round to end before I can spawn again. Also, it is a little bit more realistic than most WW2 shooters, one shot from mostguns can drop anyone, not limited to one weapon like the AWP is.

Ya I agree with Chris its more realistic for the one shot drops but there is also the fact it can be quite fustrating but it still is a good game. Also Christ I see you worked hard to get your 25 posts haha.

For me DOD:S is kinda hard to play, and i would like COD 2 or COD 4 (coming soon) alot better since it has much better graphics and the COD's company only work on War type of games. Unlike VALVE , makes all kinds of games.

DOD Source is for the gamer who likes more strategy and teamwork in their online multiplayer. I would suggest it as it is more detailed in almost everyway to css and also can be more involved.
DOD Source hasn't got as large a fan base as CSS but it has fan's out there that are producing some sweet maps. Let's just put it this way, DOD Source maps and graphics are extremely good compared with CSS maps. And they allow you to rest and sometimes camp in places where you wouldn't dare to camp if it were a CSS map.
As for the gameplay, it is as fast past and sometimes more blood pumping than CSS as it requires thinking and awareness of your surroundings to get anywhere. You need to be able to think as if you were actually in WW2 sometimes as people tend to get in certain roles with the different weapon classes, such as Snipers. In CSS snipers camp and they are bassically annoying and usually get told off. In DODS they can camp all they want as the objective is to defend the area or to defend a flag or bombsite.
The layout of DODS maps vary from the linniar to the expansive. They have many areas which are dead ends and some which are open to attack from all sides. Enough about maps, there are 6 different classes of weapons, assault, support, sniper, artillery, rilfeman and machine gunner. Each of these roles play a part in the conquering of a level. They are all available to play on during a round as you respawn like on Deathmatch.
Each has its own advantages and dissadvantages. Such as the Machine Gunner who has a powerful weapon but must either rest on a sandbag/wall or crouch on the floor. This means they are basically stationary during the whole round. The same applies to the sniper who must find a good spot to snipe the opposition without getting their position compromised. The best groups and the most popular are the Support and the Rifleman types. They are the more fast paced weapon types and generally easier to use.
As for the vehicles. No you can't use vehicles and no there isn't any sort of AI which does either. DODS is bassically CSS in disguise. It has the look and feel of COD2 and has the fast paced action of BF and CSS.
Sometimes you might get frustrated with the controls and the sometimes slowness of the gameplay, but all this should be enjoyed.
But enough altogether now as its late and I am tired.

Worth it
Posted: Jul 14, 2007, 03:45:04
I think DoD:S if definately worth the purchase. It has to be the greatest world War 2 game there is. I am addicted to it because how good it is, call of duty doesnt even match the game. Even with the 30 cal in the new CoD 3 it still isnt as good as the one on DoD because it is useless and sucks plus non of the COD maps are as good as DoD : S

I would only recomend DOD:S if you like WWII era games, because people that are accustomed to the newer weapons of CS:S might have a bad time playing

hey dude DO NOT buy it. It is not that great and trust me, when you start out you will get pwned over and over. Personally i'd stick with the old DoD (if you have it) ohh and one more thing....DoD:S is just another WWII game which really makes me mad because all of these game companies make WWII games when they have been around for the longest time. They really need to start making more MMOs or shooters like Gears of War.

*sighs and slaps* Don't degrade it just because you weren't able to enjoy it
