What to do? I hate children blabbering on their mics. I generally ask them to be quiet if they are really getting on my nerves, but can we mute them for being obnoxious? We had a kid named Salvation on Assault East today who kept explaining who was hacking and how when he walled someone it wasn't hacking in spite of no one on the server hacking or even suggesting that he was. People who simply are talking to themselves need a friend or at least a vent channel.
This has been a pet peeve of mine forever. The true mic spammers are the worst, but they are easily dealt with. Can we do warn, warn, mute or do I need to be less sensitive?

I treat mic spammers equally irrespective of age or sex.....
If they are constantly mic chatting I go down the same warning routes as everyone else. Lets be honest your "supposed" to be 15 to play the game so kids shouldn't even be playing. If they are then they get treated like the rest ![]() *stands by for the pwnzer post *Rob

Well I see that as an invitation to post Raven
Lulz... ![]() OK, here it goes: Yes, little kids can be annoying when they use their mics BUT I look at it as why they are using them. Let me go back a bit. Let's say "Mr.S" (he's so cute) who is 7 is using his mic for strategic purposes only..."Ok You cover door and I'll cover window". I would not warn/warn/kick him because his voice is a little...shall we say high pitched and annoying to some? I find it damn cute! I wouldn't warn/warn/kick an 18 or 30 year old for saying something similar. Well. There. Let's say another little kid, aged 7 uses his mic to talk about all the other games he likes to play and is just having a convo with peeps. That is annoying NO MATTER WHAT AGE. I tell them to keep it game related and if they need to converse to go in vent, type it out or call the other person on the phone! That kind of "spam" does follow the regular admin warnings. So, let's really look at the type of "spam" that these little guys are doing. Is it meaningful and game related? Then allow it. Is it personal and not game related? Then follow through! And btw, Mr.S has improved in his spelling so much!!!! He messaged me about two weeks ago and I was so proud of him! He also comes into a server, types hello and all his other chat! He really has matured so much. I had the support of his dad when we were having the "mic" problem a few months ago!

yeah dwinx i muted the person you were talking about a few times and eventually had to kick him but he just rejoins the server with a diffrent name and continues to spam about non game related topics. but i do agree with pwnzer that some people do find younger players voices annoying but thats not their fault and its all good if they are trying to help out their team and such

Be mature, and inform them of the offense.
Then if no admins are around just mute them locally. The admin on line should act accordingly. Some kids are proud they can play a game without tripping over their milk jug. thats why they talk so much. !! PST:: |

Yeah I've noticed a lot of mic spammers nowadays, hanging around the Spawnpoint Vancouver server. This is the server that I'm almost always on when I'm playing CSS. Not a lot of admins come onto the server during the early afternoon, which is around the time where I notice many of them.
Anyways I mute them, but a lot of other players have a bit of trouble, not sure why. Just thought I'd let you guys know.

I think I got the answer I wanted, but just to clarify...
I do not begrudge kids the right to talk on their mics. It is the mindless way they seem to chatter in spite of no one talking back to them. I would have the same issue with an older person. In the specific case Pulse is talking about, he was saying game-related stuff for the most part (while I was there). Like I said, he was complaining about hackers and him not hacking and directing players (very poorly). It got on my nerves, but at that point may not have qualified as spamming. However, it was diminishing my enjoyment of the game and I know that is also true of the other admins. I can only assume the other players felt the same way. It seems fair after some friendly warnings to start muting/kicking/temp banning. I just wanted to verify that I was not being overly aggressive because he was, at least in general, talking about the game and by the way I read the rules, not doing anything wrong.

LOL,
You could always start a vote on server.... "Should I mute the microphone spamming brat: - 1)Yes 2)no?" ![]()

Mic spamming is like impossible to stop, keep kicking those kids won't help.
Most of the time when you ask those kids to stop micspamming, they start yelling and swearing about your mother. I don't think there's a way to stop micspamming. I saw an mod to stop it a few months ago. If the mic was too loud, it got muted automaticly. If more than 3 people muted the same person, the person would get muted by the server automaticly. Dwinx is right.. That kids may use their microphone isn't wrong, but the kids itself. The most kids (when I say kids; it's children of 8 to 12. ) are just swearing all the way and calling everybody that kills them a hacker. They're just very mature, it's a fact. They're getting angry too fast and they like to TA, because it's "funny". But how to stop this? I don't think this is possible.. Making css a 16+ game won't help anymore, enough kids have it already. I think just muting them is the solution, when they keep being annoying a kick. But on the map I play, cs_assault, there aren't that much admins. So stopping them is hard, just muting them is the only solution. But stopping the TA isn't possible. Well.. I don't know a good solution, Kimmi. Lol, I think you can just mute them before making that vote. ;D Last edited by Kimmi; 08-13-2008 at 09:54 AM. |

Lol! There's a place for everything. Lulz! You should have seen all my clanmates the first time I cursed! It was actually when I told [PHXX]Hitman, our clan leader, to ... well, let's just say..."sit down". I was quite shocked myself! ![]() It was all in good fun though...I actually practiced the line many times so that I could say it properly when the right time came!
