Latency too high

Hi, this is my first post in this forum. I can't connect to any server online. My latency rate is too high and its not letting me in. Can anyone tell me how to control latency level so game doesn't lag and I can play source online.

My system specs are:

ASUS P4P800-DELUXE, Intel Pentium4 3.2E GHz Prescott Processor, 250GB BARRACUA SATA HDD, 1GB RAM (512x2) DDR400 Dual Channel Linear Mode, XFX 7600GT 256MB AGP

Welcome to the forums!

May I ask where you are from and what server you are trying to connect to? It may be the fact that the server is too far away for you to get a decent ping on, so the server kicks you automatically to allow for smoother gameplay for all other players.

Internet Connection Type and Speed

What kind of Firewalls do you have? A software (like Windows/Norton Internet Security/McAfee/etc.)

Spyware/Malware scanned whole PC?

Scanned for virii, trojans and worms?

I'm from London, England and I'm trying to connect to spawnpoint servers and other UK servers as well but getting same error again and again.
Internet connection I am using is NTL Broadband. Also I have installed fresh copy of windows xp. Haven't installed any security software yet and
windows firewall is also turned off.

The UK servers (83.142.230.66 to 73:27015) are located in London so if you have a broadband connection you should have a good ping on there.

This leads me to think that it could be one of two things, your computer is full of spyware and crap like that can use up bandwidth, or for some reason your connection is no good for gaming. Not all connections are good for gaming and just because you have a good download speed doesn't mean that you will have a good ping.

What I would recommend is using an online connection test to get some info on your connection, then download some anti-virus / anti-spyware software, then run the connection test again. If this makes no difference then contact your internet service provider and explain the problem to them, they'll most likely have an idea about what to do.

There are plenty of good and free anti-virus, anti-spyware programs out there, I use AVG free and Ad-Aware. Always use at least two as there will be things that one will pick up that the others won't.

I did online connection test, it shows my internet is working fine. So as suggested, I installed anti-virus (TrendMicro PC-Cillin Internet Security 2007)
and guess what?

Now I can connect to online servers. At first my latency is high but within few seconds its come under 20, gameplay is smooth and I can do some
fragging!!
