(my fps in CS1.6 reaches over 500 at times in 1024x768 fullscreen. pwnt[:@])Your problem is mainly your CPU. Intel Celeron Processors were not designed for Gaming Applications. I would go for a Core2 Duo if it is a socket 775 Motherboard, if it is good ol' 478, go for maybe a 3.2GHz (or a 2.4C if you are short on cash) Another part of the problem might lie with your Video Card. Though X1600 is not a terrible chipset, it is not the best. X1600's only have 4 Pixel Pipes (Advertised as 12 by some brands. It is actually three Vertex Units with Four pipelines each, or something like that. Only processes 4 Pixels per clock). Also the memory, though plentiful, is only 128Bit DDR2. This memory lacks bandwidth compared to 256, and now 384 bit memory in the newer Video Cards. If it is a PCI-Express card you should be a little better off, but X1600's were not designed to give uber-framerates. I had an AGP X1600Pro AGP card for a while, using it with my Pentium 4 3.0GHz CPU, it have me about 40FPS in stock video settings. I would get a real processor first. Even newer Celeron D's lack the punch most games demand. I mentioned Pentium 42.4C above, which is (one of) the Pentium version of the chip you likely have now. The 2.4C has been a well known overclock-friendly chip, so if you are strapped for cash, you will likely be able to find one of these for about 60 bucks, and overclock it easily to 2.6/2.8/3.0GHz. This would be a nice cheap, though slightly risky solution. Other than buying new hardware, the best thing to go is update your drivers for everything (mainly video), defrag your harddrive, run some virus/spyware scans, and all that fun stuff. Welcome to spawnpoint

Well, thanks for all the advices Mr_Me_II but I can't spend money for my computer at the moment (I already asked my dad to buy a 1gb ram chip(lol I am only 14))
Any other things I can do to increase my FPS without spending money on processors ?

Mr Me 2 is mostly right on the money there. The only I can say is CS:S does in fact have an opengl option. If you wanna use it just add it to your launch options same as dxlevel 81 for example, but instead just use -opengl or gl, one of em can't remember which. You have an ati card though so probably D3D is the way to go for you, and get a better cpu as it will make a world of difference. GL & HF!

The biggest thing I've always noticed is if you turn down your graphix, your computer assumes you dont have teh video capabilities to handle the game, so it runs mostly on proc power, or soemthing like that. You should try setting your graphix back up to your regular desktop display, but make sure to try the simple things first, turn all the settings to their recommended areas, but turn off all shadows and anything dynamic. When I ran my system on all low settings, everything all the way down, my fps got worse... :/ and fixing your rates is usually something that needs doing. So just turn off all dynamics and shadows and fix your rates, you may be suprised how simple it is. And if anyone wants a really good article on fixing their rates, I've got an excelent one, so shoot me an email, wreckgar_87@yahoo.com and good luck man.

you can even go with amd processors that are dual core they arent expensive but still good for gaming. I run 64 live with 2.2 ghz dual core and a nvidia 7300gt pci-express which all together new ran me exactly $910 with a nice samsung 19in lcd and I am getting anywhere from 60-75 fps on source. When I sold computers from circuit city I usually led gamers away from celerons and to the processors that can as Mr_Me said have that punch that is needed for true gaming. Celerons are great for the Sims and games in that field but fps and rpgs need amds and p4 on up to the dual cores which both amd and intel have available. Make sure to update your driver for you video card or check even if its new for an update just in case. Good luck.
