What Is Weapon Spray?

Spray is basically when you hold down MOUSE 1 and empty your clip in one burst. Spray from different guns send the bullets in different directions. The severity of the recoil of a weapon affects the severity of the spray. In other words... The more recoil on a weapon the more spray. CSS has built in spray patterns for every weapon and it's a distinct advantage to know the patterns if you are to make the transition from intermidiate to expert player. Note the following patterns are produced from a static firing position and when in motion, these patterns will change slightly. But you should be able to work out how they will change on the fly once you have grasped these basic shapes. Note: Spraying is only usefull as a last resort. I wouldnt recommend doing it at all personally but even the pro's sometimes have too

M4a1
You can clearly see the M4a1 has 2 main patterns a 'T' shaped pattern & a 'P' pattern that somtimes is reversed depending on variables only the game can determine. This so its useful to spray (for headshots in a panic) to aim for the upper body and let loose.





AUG & SG550
You can clearly see with the CT's AUG & the T's SG550 both have the same spray patterns. The main spray patterns is a 'T' shaped pattern & the odd 'P' pattern slipped in. This is useful for a stationary or a walking/crouched moving target. But a single shot is better if tracing an enemy.





AK47
The AK47 seems to have the same basic spary pattern every time, the first 3 rounds hit almost spot on target but after that the weapon recoil kicks in and forces the fire upwards where the remain shots hit in a large area. Making the best tactic to use a burst fire method of 2 or three shots per time. Let the recoil settle and then fire again.





Famas
The bbiggest suprise in this test was the FAMAS. The spray pattern is very tight, almost perfect. Like the other weapons, players need to learn how to use burst fire to overcome the weapon recoil. The FAMAS is a heavy weapon and it will slow you down considerabley when in motion. Its a decent soloution to a weapon problem when you have very little money.





Summary & Findings
After carrying out this little test in CSS the finds are simple. If you find you need to spray, usually if you end up in a tough spot and panic. Remember these spray patterns. Aim for the mid body and let the recoil do the rest.

In my opinion, the AK-47 is by far the most accurate, powerful weapon in css. When you work out how to judge the recoil and the burst's, it's a deadly weapon in the right hands. But the FAMAS wins in the recoil test. It has the tightest spray patter out of the lot and when fired from a stationary position is equally as affective as the AK.

Very nice post indeed! I thought the FAMAS had low recoil on Auto, on Burst fire there is NO recoil really. I might use it more.

nice find except what one problem is it varies with the distance and wether or not you had the guns silenced or zoomed in

I have to agree with deathscythe tbh, the zoom feature and distance are an eliment not featured.

But unfoturnately you didnt include how to improve recoil with the weapons at short-mid range e.g. drag the mouse down, with weapons like m4 or the AK.

Still a nice find tho, but ive seen it before. No dis-respect and im sure alot of people will find this interesting and helpful.

Aye, this is a pretty good article.

Found it awhile ago on a pro gaming website, and it helped me immensely with my shooting back then. I'll have to find the website again, they had a lot of good articles on it.

Indeed the pictures are from pro-hl.com, but ive changed all the text so people who read in english can understand it lol. I'm going to keep updating for things such as controlling recoil, different modes of fire, distance, movement and improving accuracy etc when i get the chance. Kinda did this inbetween shifts at work lol so its a work in progress
