Upper Vent Camping

With the footsniping, the roof shadows, and the vent bugs, it's like cs_assault couldn't get anymore T-favored. Then, there's upper vent camping.

I think Spawnpoint should have a stricter policy towards upper vent camping. People are taking advantage of the kindness of admins, and don't care if they get warned as long as they get a couple of cheap kills. They also sometimes camp enough up there to get 1 kill and then immediately drop down.

At this point, every single cs_assault server has the upper vent camping rule and everyone knows you can't do it. If the T is seen up there even for a second, (it only takes a glance at the radar) they should get warned instantly, and if they are seen up there for more than 5 seconds (especially after the warning or a second time after the warning), they should just get slayed.

Don't take this the wrong way, in terms of rules Spawnpoint is one of the best and having many admins online is always a plus. This is just an area that may be looked into and have a stricter policy towards.

You are right. Upper vent camping can be very frustrating. However, Spawnpoint has a set way of dealing with these...there is a process that admins must follow (warn, warn, slay...). The following may help give you ideas of what YOU can do when you encounter upper vent campers.

We don't ban vent campers right away. Some people might be new and not a) know the rule or b) read the rules that come up from time to time.

I've a bind that says "Upper vent camping will get you killed". If they ignore it then they do get killed

If they continue to ignore it they then get kicked and eventually banned.

If you demo UV campers and submit the demo the staff take notes of playersthat do it and if they get a few demos of continued UV camping then yes, they may well get perma banned.

The rule is there to make it a bit fairer on the CT's.

I do understand the Spawnpoint policy about the warn - warn - slay, but I also believe that there are reasons for the policy to get stricter, skipping the 2nd warn.

I am not sure when exactly Rob made that post, but if it was a while back (for example, a few months after Spawnpoint opened up there servers) then I would have agreed with him. However, by now, everybody knows the rule, and they are simply ignoring it (I've even seen players in the top 20 doing it), which I think deserves a warn followed quickly by a slay if the player doesn't comply fast (about 10 seconds). I am not asking for them to get kicked immediately.

I have a question for server admins. I know there's a way to freeze a player in a spot, but is there anyway to freeze weapons so they can't shoot? If so, that could be used as soon as they are warned and then have the weapon bind released when they leave the UV.

some of the regulars on the spawnpoint assault servers are pretty good about all the rules and knowing them, the problem with ppl not knowing the rules is if they dont play on the servers regularily or sign up on the forums here.

This need sorting out, but cant expect to have admin on there 24/7. So what can you do?

I really know how u feel Shiz, im a regular on any assault server throughout the UK including spawnpoint.

I frequent the UK SP assault server alot! And due to the lack of admin availability there arent enough admins on that server at any point of the day for a long enough duration.

Alot of admins lost there admin responsibilities on that server for alot of different reasons and they deserved it (including myself), but there are ways everyone can help that dont have admin on the server in question.

That said, the best you can do (when no admin is available) is warn the rule breakers that they are violating spawnpoint rules. Maybe even persuade them to type "motd" into chat to bring up the list of rules.

But if these people constantly break the rules, i would suggest recording a demo by typing "record <demoname>" into the console.

'<demoname>' being the name you would like to give the name of your demofile that you can later submit to spawnpoint (without the <> in the name ofc). To make this a valid demo for use of spawnpoint you will be required to type the command "status" into the console, while the demo is recording. So the steam ID's of the offenders will be captured along with the demo.

I was actually wondering how to make a demo so thanks for that L4rk.

The problem with UV camping isn't that people don't know about it, it's that they know about it and even when an admin IS around they aren't punished and simply warned, or not caught doing it. [They leave UV after getting a kill or 2 so the admin doesn't see them] I'll try to demo them when I see this from now on.

Does anyone know the answer to my previous question?

Well i hate it as much as the next guy but uppervent camping is a part of counter strike it is a basic stratagy and is questionably looked down upon there are ways to kill people up there for example take some shots through vent and see if someone dies maybe empty a clip and see?

The policy is as it stands, and it seems to be working.

There is a way to "freeze" but you can freeze the player. Once that happens, if he tries to shoot, he immediately loses his weapons. So in answer to your question, an admin cannot only freeze weapons, he freezes a player. If the admin unfreezes the player, he will no longer have weapons.

I agree with Lark. Making a demo proberly the best way of decreasing the problem. Most of the UV campers happen to be noobs, and don't read what is being said in the in-game chat.
