quietness = win when you're the last man standing and you don't want the entire other team hearing where you are. in that regard, the awp is a dead giveaway, BUT i'd take an awp in that situation any day. besides, nobody likes to run near the sound of awp fire
![]() as for the ak/silenced m4 comparison, you can sneak up on the other team just as well with an ak as any silenced weapon. at best, a silenced m4 may buy you a little more time under cover, but its real benefit IMO is the lack of muzzle flash. but besides, its how you use the weapon that matters, not the weapon itself (in this comparison at least) |

You do realize if you were across the map from the other guys, you won't be able to hear the AWP, even though it's louder than thunder, and all you'd hear is a thud when the bullet hits a wall near you, or you're dead, depending on the AWPer's aim.

silencers help only to not give away position. like trinity said, there is no muzzle flash, but a loud bang tend to turn heads. and as sir understeer said, loud bangs from far away tend to be less bangish. as in RL, real snipers dont use silenced weapons, because most of the time they are very far way. meaning that if you are in their sights, youre dead before you even hear the bang. the muzzle velocity of a 30.06 for example is 2900 ft/sec. and if you do the math thats 174,000 feet per minute, or 1977 miles per hour. and the speed of sound is roughly 770 mph. soooooooo a typical 30.06 with 150 grains of powder muzzle velocity is 2.56 times the speed of sound. so when shooting at a target that is, say, a mile and a half away, the sound of the actual shot will reach the target roughly 7 seconds after the sniper pulls the triger. note: before you reply and say im wrong, i will say that over distance, a bullet does slow down due to friction in the air and gravity. so these figures are not entirely acurate. they are based off of muzzle velocity and the speed of sound in dry air only. the speed of sound changes at different elevations and in moist air. merely something to chew on....
