Sniping in BF2

Well I am new to BF2, but so far I really enjoy it. One thing that I am confused about is sniping. I know it was mentioned that it was more realistic, but does that mean that I have to lead the person running, or compensate for bullet drop due to distace?

I have tried just aiming directly at the person, and I rarely hit them. Any advice?

Sniping is alot harder in bf2 than CS. You have to lead the shot for people on the run and some of the guns require adjusting for bullet drop. Get the barret sniper rifle as soon as you can because there is no bullet drop on that baby.

For a beginner it's easiest to shoot people standing still. I like to find a good spot to camp a flag that is always being faught over, lots of people stay still when capturing flags. Always remember to lay down when sniping to or else you will never hit anything.

Another tip for easy sniper kills is to find an attack chopper that doesn't spawn in an uncap(unless the server allows attacking uncaps). Use the barret snipper rifle and shoot people out of the attack chopper when they are preparing to take off. They wont be moving and everyone always runs for the attack choopers so you won't run out of people to kill.

another tip, is with any sniper, to shoot for the head. it is always a one shot kill.

i cant agree more... ive spent many a fun time camping a heli pad, just as the pilot gets in BAM HEADSHOT. its fun as the pilot has been waiting around for a few minutes for the heli so he/she must get a tad upset when u do it time after time.just remember , people will cotton on to what u are doin , so think about relocating... u can do this to jet pilots aswell and vehicles... i managed to kill a huey pilots mid air a few times, if its full of passengers then u many kills

some sniper rifles are better than others.

Which one is the auto sniper? Cause that damn thing pisses me off! I can't figure out how to aim with it cause the crosshair is all weird..

The Barret is a waste of a unlock. The sites are too big, they can hear you from a mile away, and the chances you are going to hit someone in a chopper is enormous. The US default is the best, in my opinion. Only go with the Barret, if you are used to going Mec or China.

Hitting someone in a chopper is very very easy if you do it "When they are preparing to take off". You have a good couple of seconds before the helicopter can get off the ground to line up a head shot through the cockpit canopy. Now if you can't hit someone in the head that doesn't move for four seconds than maybe sniping isn't the best idea for you.

This works great on dragon valley at the Chinese air base, it is an un-cap and there is plenty of cover.

Agreed. If you camp the choppers, it is a great rifle. But for normal, run of the mill sniping, it is not as good and the US default. That is why the SF unlock is identical to the US default.

Please excuse me, I played BF2 for 2 years, but it has but at least 9 months since I played. I forgot the names of the weapons.

BTW -- I was an expert sniper and I think I ended at Sargent Major.

It is a good game. It kept my clan busy for almost 2 years. I would definately try it. It will at least keep you busy until CRYSIS comes out!
