I was getting massive fps (200-250 depending on map and server) with the 8800GTS I was using but was having rendering issues with fog, shadows and people fading to nothing the farther they got from me. It is a known issue with Valve and Nvidia but fps should not be a problem. The drivers for the 8800 series cards I would classify as beta at best. Good luck to you....How big of a power supply are you using?

Iknow there are problems. I know that if we are playing aztec i can't see people accross the bridge they are just a shadow. same a triple door to double doors.my benchmarks are crappy too so it's not just cs. might have something to do with the video card being nvidia and the chipset on the mother board being ATI. I'll post up the scores comparing my 7800GTX to my 8800 GTX.

That 3800+ is bottlenecking your system too..I would see if your board has dual core support. When I upgraded to dual core, my Sansasoft score went to 17000. That 3800+ only gets like a 6000 score.Does your ram run dual channel?

its just a well known issue about the 8800 series and source.gonna have to wait for an update from steam no doubt. as for the processor.look in ur bios cus there must be something limiting it,its not the best cpu but it shud still be scoring better than that. sadly i dont use amd so i cant say what option to look for but most bios have a little explanation of what each setting means so get keyboarding and reading ![]() |

It's not the CPU. That particular CPU (The 3800X2) gets closer to 15000 than 6000 on Sandra. A single core 2400 gets about 6000. Make sure you got the right Video drivers, and that you removed drivers from the previous card. Do you have AMD's Dual-Core Optimizer installed? If not - go to [link=http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html]http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html[/link] and install the optimizer. Installing this tiny little tool made my whole computer run 100% smoother (with a 4200X2) Get a tool called CPU-z to determine if your RAM is running in Dual Channels, at the correct timings (For that memory it should be something like 3-4-4-8...but I'm only guessing.). Also make sure your CPU is running at the correct frequency. I've seen processors run about half of thier normal speed to preserve power. "Quiet-n-Cool" on AMD chips might do this (not sure).
