MasterFlash
I can't remember[:@]put it in about 6 months ago. I was in a "ragin' hurry" to get something together that would work with my motherboard and leave me enough money for my BFG 7800GT OC. I should still have the box though. I do know it is a 939 socket...did that on purpose so that I could put a faster one in later without having to switch my board out...I have a nice board....PCI-x 1gig fsb....lots of slots for add-ons...dual channel ram capable, that I am happy to say I am taking atvantage of with my 4 matched sticks of 512mb pc 3200...SATA and IDE so I can use my old HD and upgrade to the new ones as fast as I can convince my wife that I "need it" lol. Oddly enough, that chip is one of my choke points now....DAMN THE UPGRADES![:@][&:][:'(][&o] I don't know....250 to 300 fps should really be enough you would think lolI will probably try to upgrade in about 6 months to somewhere in the neighborhood of a 4200+ (we will see what new egg has then) and when I do I will let you know with an email through your SPAWNPOINT profile email. As a foot note....the soundblaster X-fi I have is probably almost as responsible for my better game play as my 7800GT OC is...it's almost like having a "sound hack" ....much, much easier to tell not only where people are coming from, but how close they are around the corners and how many there are....unbelievably better than my Audigy was...gives me a better chance of starting my "pre-firing" around corners and stuff. I think OPREP said it all when he made the post in my DOMINATING! good or bad thread...always one step ahead...that's the way I feel with this sound card.....was worth the $150 for sure in my oppinion.

I have a lowly Radeon x800xt video card (well I guess it only two generations behind the big guns, not too bad), 1 gig of 333 Mhz ram, and an insanely slow AMD XP clocked at 1.6 Ghz.
Yes my rig is slow, but it actually runs Source like no other which is nice. I am planning on getting a new one once a lot of new generation parts come out. For example, the R600 series from Radeon and I want to see what comes from AMD processors next. |

hi Haste,
based on your specs there are two upgrades that should give your speed a big boost. the first thing you would want to do is add more RAM. Without knowing the motherboard info and CPU model number I can't say which type of RAM to go with, but based on the other specs I'm going to say PC3200 is probably what you use. XP can be a serious memory hog, so upgrading to 1 or 2 GB of RAM will massively increase the performance of your computer. If you have open RAM slots you can get sticks to match the ones you are already using, but if not a 1GB RAM Kit (matched 512 sticks) should cost about $65-$75, while a 2GB RAM kit (matched 1GB sticks) should cost around $130. after you upgrade your RAM, if you still want better gaming performance you could upgrade your video card. the 9800Pro is an older card that can't match the performance of more current generation cards. Right now the top of the line AGP card is probably the X1950 Pro, which runs around $200 online. |
