Is it a good idea to disable my pagefile altogether? I know thats a bad idea with only 1GB or ram, but say if I had 2-3GB, would it improve performance any in Load Times? Because well...a hard drive is gunna read/write like 150MB/s tops, versus my memory...6GB/s....seems like it might be faster if I increased capacity for those larger games..
I didn't even realize the pagefile could be disabled until recently when randomly browsing around the net.. Current pagefile is set to Min: 2048MB Max: 2048MB (I have heard its better to leave min and max equal...to eliminate on-the-fly changes to the PF size)

if your interested in finding out how much this changes you will need something like a benchmark test software to see the difference if any gain is incurred like 3dmark to see if you gain anything in game like fps but i would recommend to make much smaller than to disable it ... and when you do these changes keep checking 3dmark to see if you gain anything

The pagefile is used when your memory is full, but don't forget that the pagefile also helps your system run more efficiently, when you have files running in memory that are not being used, they are paged to the page file and stored for later used freeing up memory for programs that are actually using/needing it.
I wouldn't disable it, windows xp does a decent job at managing virtual memory and doesn't use it unless it needs it. It's up to you, some say that you will see some boost, maybe more so in gaming applications, but I just leave mine intact. One thing I recommend tho, is that you set it to a fixed size, I use 1024mb (Min: 1024, Max: 1024), this will prevent windows from "dynamically resizing" the page file, which would cause a slow down. By all means though, try running some system tests with/without the pagefile, would be interesting to see how much, if any, gain you get.

I won't attempt to disable my PF until I at least double my memory. I currently only run iwith 1GB of DDR...I would like to get 4GB sometime in the near future...if I get lucky on some scratch-off cards...
