What files need "ported over"?

Right i've my new pc up and running and have clean installed hl2, CSS, hl2 deathmatch etc etc.

Now I just need someone to tell me what files from my "old pc" I need to move to my "new pc" to allow me to keep my config, maps, sprays etc.

If someone has 5 mins can they list the files i need to take? (I assume they will all be in steam apps/name/css/cstrike folder?

Can I just save them to a memory stick and them transfer them to the same files in the new pc thus "overwriting" whats in there at the moment??

Any help would be appreciated.

I must say i played hl2 for 1/2 hour or so last night and the graphics and stuff are like "WOW"

I think you can just take your whole cstrike folder and replace it with the old one. Close steam, copy paste, restart steam.

Maybe..

If not, Steam will just re-download the folder anyway...so I don't think there is any harm in trying


But yeah...all of your configs/sprays/binds/maps/screenshots/everythings are all in cstrike.

I've always just copied the whole cstrike folder to the new install. You'll need to copy your favorite servers from the steam menu to a text document though. I have no idea where steam stores them, and I have yet to get them to copy over to a new install any other way.

Yes. You have two options here. You can just take the WHOLE SteamApps folder with you to the new computer (easiest option). If you would prefer not to do this you can take the individual maps, configs and other stuff out of the folders and move them to the new computer. These files will be located in the steam apps/name/css/cstrike as you correctly assumed.

Yes. This will work fine, although a recommended tip to just avoid any problems is to ensure that Steam is not running when you overwrite the files. (Windows won't let you overwrite in use files, but checking this before is alot easier.)

All sorted and up and running

I just took the whole counter strike folder over and replaced the new one.

It's finally great to be able to play on a BIG screen with all settings at high and have little / no lag even when loads of smoke goes off.

Also, being able to use a crosshairscale of like 3500 helps aim big style.

I'm betting i'm accused of hacking within 10 minutes of joining the UK Assault server LOL
