Well I thought I should close the mystery since I opened the can of worms...I believe the culprit is my speakers, reacting to the new iphone sitting next to it...DOH! I shoulda figured that out when I have to put my iphone out of arms reach at home or my speakers (and vent, evidently) there go bonkers. How annoying...

haha very nice. I had similar problems with a blackberry downloading mail when it sat next to the speakers.
