no question, just a tech thread. this is tech related so i decided it belonged here and not it some other section of the forum.
i was taking pictures at my desk so i didnt really have room to use my mono pod, if i did have room i would have used it because i hate shakey pictures just as much as the next guy. im water cooling my new system with the athlon x2 and 8600gt. i got all the ater cooling parts you see for free so... the 7600gs and athlon 64 are so old parts i had laying around that im going to build an extra system out of.

i dont have the money for a second 8600 or an 8800. did you overclock you gfx cards at all?
im not going to bother with a gfx card update for a while, the 9600's stink and the 9800's are just re-hashed 8800's.

its not that the 9 series is bad, it just that the slight preformance upgrade isnt worth the money. the 9900 arent looking a whole lot better, nvidia is digging them selves a hole.
if i had the money i would have gotten an 8800 but i didnt so ow well, the 8600 is doing just fine and with a little overclock isnt that far behind. ill probably put up a guide to overclocking you gfx card if there is enough demand.

I could also do such a guide. I have an SLI rig, and have had one before this too. I also am a hardcore overclocker, and have some aftermarket cooling, and majorly overclocked graphics card. I'll probably post it one up in a few days if you'd like, I'm just swamped tonight.
and bishop, did you have the watercooling stuff before? and my bro has an 8600gts... Decent card, but not terribly powerful. He's gotten a couple of bad overclockers. The first one didn't run at teh MSI overclocked speeds... I've gotten to like 900mhz on core though. Not bad with stock cooling :P. Last edited by canttouchthis; 03-31-2008 at 08:49 PM. |

my guide is up for those of you that care to read it.
i just got the water cooling stuff, waiting for a pump, and it is going on my system here: Amd athlon 64 x2 4600+ 2.5ghz socket AM2 cpu Asus M2N-E Sli atx mother board Kingston 2gb (2x1gb) DDR2 PC800 ram Xfx 8600gt xxx 256mb GDDR3 pci-e gfx card (xxx=factory overclock, 620mhz) emprex cd-rw/dvd-rw lite-on dvd-rom western digital 80gb sata II hdd western digital 100gb ide hdd thermaltake tr2 500w atx psu the other system up there is just a backup/mini gamer. i love my 8600gt, it overclocks very well even with the air cooler. i agree its not super powerful but it gets the job done very well. the farthest ive bothered to go is 650mhz on core and 860mhz on ram, past that there is no preformance gain in css or bf2. once i get the water in ill probably push it farther than that. if i could i would definately get a second one.

I dont think it's worth it on the 8600gt. It was intended mainly as a HD card, and SLI performance isn't that great of an improvement. But hey, if it does it for you whatever floats your boat. I wouldn't mind trying to voltmod it >: )
