Engine Error

My friend just bought counter strike source recently, we tried a simple map at first like fy_iceworld map and it worked fine, and when i invited him to play tin shack assault with me, he told me that it got to retrieving server info, then the downloading bar would split into half and go all fuzzy. Immediately after counter strike source closed and a popup came up saying: Engine Error: Model models/props_wasteland/controlroom_chair001a.mdl not found and models/error.mdl couldn't be loaded. In each other map that we tried there was a different model that we couldn't download. Please help a.s.a.p. you'll be repped =]

Try logging out of steam, restarting your computer, then logging back in. It'll clears some stored data when you do that, and isn't a bad place to start.

we tried that and reinstalling it 4 times

go delete your models folders, join some random server, and let it download each of the models. and also, did you reinstall STEAM or the game? if reinstalling, make sure you delete your actual source folder, not just remove local content or w/e

there wont be any models folder unless he installed custom models or skins. will probably have to post on steams forums for help as i doubt you can delete the .gcf files and redownloading them will work but you can try delete the .gcf files in the steamapps folder.

Defragging it helped a little but now there's some Internal driver error in IDirect3DDevice9: resent(). the bright side is some maps work like de_dust2,aim maps,gg,fy_iceworld.

i get that error all the time. either that or the screen goes black i tend to restart the computer or when it crashes the game just keep restarting the game and then it will work untill next time you want to play

updating your drivers wouldn't hurt.

go to steam/my games/right click on "counterstrike source"/properties/local files/ and click on verify integry of game cache...
it may take a while but it checks if the files are proper!

Im guessing your freind is using Vista? My freind also gets an engine error occasionally when ingame and he uses vista.

If so id recommend gettin rid of vista :P my freind did the same and now works fine with XP.

no i dont think it is because of vista l4rk because i get the internal driver errors all the time on my XP but not on the vista computer i think it will have something to do with my graphics card. MIGHT be the same problem with your mates comp gl0cks because i have tried so much and to no prevail. just a thought

well yeah he doesn't have vista and i agree with sulli it might be because of his graphics card seems outdated.

yeah I meant update the graphics card driver.

when i updated the graphics card driver to the most recent it didnt help me. it kinda made the error pop up more frequent but it might work better for others. should be getting new gfx card soon
