Well in my honest opinion I like Windowx XP PRO, more so then any of the vista OS's out there. Even though Vista has some nice add-ons to it that XP does not, it eats up to much memory.

Also I bought a HP pavilion and it came with vista. First off I think it's stupid that computer companies are pushing this new windows OS so hard. In my opinion it's ruining windows rep, and I think it's letting MAC sneak by on sales.
With that installing my XP PRO gave me lots of problems (Because the system was built for vista). I had to get a new NIC card (Network Interface card). Search for HOURS for the proper drivers for the hardware to be compatable with XP PRO. But all in all my "Downgrade" to XP PRO was very very much worth it.

sorry but as good as vista looks i dont find it worth the trouble. a flashy looking operating system does not replace stable and fast preformance.

Yeah, plus it always would crash on me in the middle of a game, or working with protools in the middle of 5 hours of studio work.. lost so much time to that OS

I found that even with my 4gigs of ram, vista still ate 1gig .... with xp pro its less then half that PLUS i found my games to run much smoother on the xp format with vista EXPECIALLY with CS:S it doesnt run it as fast as it can be run

It scans your pc and picks up on any "conflicts" that you may meet when installing and running Vista.

I'd need to remove 2Gb of Ram, my graphics card, Nero and about three other things before I installed it.

Then It wouldn't run Nero properly and wouldn't recognise my new GFX card.

*sigh*

The joys of Microsoft
sorry I missed this earlier but raven, that diagnostic tool is pretty bad.

I assume you have 4gb, and vista32 only recognizes 3, which is still better than 2gb. (Vista 64 can make use of all 4gigs)

Nero could probably be run, you'd just have to put it to run in xp mode.

Your graphics card has to be some off brand (I.E. Not ati or Nvidia), and really old for it to not have vista support. What do you have?

Better to upgrade now, before they cut XP support and leave everyone stranded

Is it really necessary to make a post saying the exact same thing as the one directly above it?

Why not ? It's emphasizing their opinion

Regardless, as most XP users know XP wasn't perfect when it initially came out either, so you might as well get Vista now and wait patiently (with a good firewall)

There's too many people on XP, they won't cut the support for it, it will take a long time before Microsoft cut XP support, that wouldn't be smart that they do it soon.

True, they cut support for Windows 98 July 11 2006. While XP was released 2001, but the supposed date for XP support cut is April 14, 2009 just so everyone is aware

Do you have an article or any hard evidence of this?
