if you're switching to an A-Open motherboard, what model is it? If you're keeping the motherboard you have now, I'd need to know what processor you want to put in it before I can tell you if it is compatible or not.
As far as the 4X AGP slot on your current motherboard, it's always going to be 4X. doesn't matter what processor you put in it, the AGP slot itself can't transfer at 8X speeds, so if you want to go to 8X you'll need a new board (I'm guessing that's where the A-Open board comes in?)
oh, and that horrendous screetching noise coming from your computer the other night when you called me? Yup, that was definately an alarm to let you know the 6800 you put in was trying to pull way more power than your 200W power supply could feed it.
