Why do I want us out? Good question.
I don't think we should have been there in the first place. It was asinine to invade. I honestly think Bush and most of his cabinet should be charged with gross misconduct, impeached and exiled from this country. Though I'm not delusional enough to think that will ever happen, the thought of him being another Napoleon exiled from his country makes me grin. But I digress, this isn't about Bush.
It was foolish, reactionary and short sited to invade a country that had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11.
How hypocritical of me would it be to then say, we should withdraw from this country we have completely destabilized even further than it already was, hurt its people further and thrown the country into general chaos?
I believe it is our responsibility as citizens of this country, who elected the current government to accept the onus of leaving Iraq better than we found it. If that means we have to spend billions more, and send more troops then thats what we have to do. I hope those of you who voted for Bush sleep well with that thought.
That does not mean a government like ours, nor a Starbucks on every corner. We should leave when the people of Iraq achieve stability. Which in my mind includes a government that has the best interest of its populace in mind, and a government that answers to its people, not the other way around.
You can't force a democracy on a people, so bringing democracy to Iraq should not be our goal. If they don't want it then it is an impossible task to install one.
We also need to do whatever it takes to end this infighting now. We kicked over the ant hill, now we have to deal with it. A full blown civil war is a situation that I don't believe we can end.
