As for leaders, no Caesar? And Stalin sure did lead Russia for what, only 31 years? People didn't really like him much, but he and his industrial reformations or five year plans led Russia to become a superpower (though it took three of them and they were mainly Trotskys or Lenin's [don't remember which] ideas). Winston Churchill was also a fairly good leader. Abraham Lincoln led our nation past the civil war and certainly was one of best leaders.
As far as Generals go, you might want to think about

Napoleon
Gengis Khan
Robert E. Lee (though he did fight for the South he got some great victories on the north with his brillant strategies)
Sun Tzu (amazing strategist).
