Day of Defeat source is definately worth it, because there are so many improvements over the first one. The main difference between the two is that the first one had the British alliance along with a few more guns. I prefer Source though because I am a real adict when it comes to playing as the American army and everything. Also change the sounds which improves the game play a lot. Source also gets a little more challenging because it's maps contain more hiding spots and open areas to get shot in. If you are someone who loves to snipe then I would recommend that you play Snow Bridge or one of the snow maps cause it gets intense with the level of sniper skills needed to win.
