On April 30th Softbank of Japan agreed to invest $US430M in China's Oak Pacific Interactive (OPI) for a 35% stake in OPI. The investment launched the relatively unknown operator of China's largest social networking website to a market capitalization of 10 Billion RMB and provided OPI with "hard cash".
The unprecedented $US430M investment is the largest ever by Softbank in China's internet industry and was the largest ever private placement among all Chinese internet companies.
OPI's current management team will not change as Mr. Joe Chen will remain both Chairman of the Board and CEO.
Son Masayoshi, President of Softbank, will join OPI's board of directors.
