World of Warcraft: Global Domination

World of Warcraft, or WoW, introduced first in 1994 by Blizzard Entertainment, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Set in the Warcraft fantasy universe, this game has sixty two percent of the massively multiplayer online game market, which gives them over 16 million subscribes.
After choosing which realm you would like to play in (realms have different rules and terms of role playing), you then need to select which opposing force you would like to be a part of: the Alliance, or the Horde. After this, you can further more specific details by choosing which race, class, talents, or otherwise your character obtains. World of Warcraft is mostly a quest game, where you are given tasks and missions to accomplish, such as killing creatures or gaining objects. You can also fight other players one on one, or enter a battleground.

World of Warcraft is viewed as a third dimensional presentation of the Warcraft universe that has two continents in the world of Azeroth. You can gain more points or talents by exploring the universe which will later gain you levels and opening up more options for the player. The game includes various facilities such as cities, towns, and is accompanied with several types of stores or shops. When you become more experienced you can group together with other players in the game and compete in raids. During a raid you can attack creatures out in the normal environment, or in dungeons.
One of the first incidents to effect entire servers of WoW was the Corrupted Blood plague. This stole a player’s life sporadically during patch 1.7, and could be passed on to other players that were merely close to another player who had been infected. Eventually, the disease made its way outside of the dungeon it has been originally secluded to. The breaches lead to the infection of entire cities, especially the ones that had high concentrations of players. The disease could kill a player at a lower level, and it was eventually fixed and unable to leave the area of Zul’Gurub. Because of this occurrence on an online game, and the fact that is very closely resembled an outbreak of an epidemic in the real world, more research is being done by scientists to see how they can closer model the human’s reaction to an outbreak, which could lead to real world predictions against populations.

As unreal as it some may think, it is very possible to become addicted to this game. You yourself, or perhaps someone you know, could quite possibly be a victim to this. A four month old child was reported dead due to suffocation in 2005, when her parents were out at an internet café playing WoW, neglecting the new child. This lead to the government of China placing a limitation on the game to 3 hours, later changed to only apply to people under the age of 18. In 2006 it was reported, not based on fact, that over 9 million of the online gaming players are actually addicted to playing the game. WoW has spawned into other markets as well, because of its widespread and global popularity. World of Warcraft has made its way into television shows, as well as truck commercials. DC Comics has written a comic based on the game, and two board games were released on the game, as well.
While days of information could not even begin to put a dent in the detailed game of World of Warcraft, it is obvious that this massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) has affected tens of millions of people. The game has become a part of society, of which some people have based their lives upon. It is estimated that this game will do nothing but rise in players, respectively taking complete control over the gaming market. After more than ten years of the celebrated Warcraft industry, there are still many more expansions and markets to create and conquer.
