Summary :
Mario and Sonic at the Olympics showcases major characters from Nintendo's past competing for the gold in many different competitions.

The “Official Video Game” of the 2008 Beijing Olympics is the new Nintendo game, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. This game is approved by the International Olympic Committee, so there is no need to worry that the competitions you are competing in are not regulation!

These two classic video game stars finally come together in their own game, but you are free to play as either of them or any other characters from their world. You can also choose which of the characters you would like to compete against. The interesting thing about this game is you are able to see these classic characters in different circumstances. How do you think Yoshi will handle the pole vault?

Compete in many different sports such as swimming heats, sprints, long jump, pole vault, archery, fencing, gymnastics, rowing, shooting and table tennis. This long list of events should keep even the most talented cyber-jock busy for many, many hours. And you know you can’t stop until you have the gold medal in every event….

And how can you perform an event such as the trampoline or the vault in gymnastics on a video game, you ask? The great technology of the Nintendo Wii and DS lets the remotes communicate with the system for an interactive and active game. So you know you won’t be sitting on your couch for hours at a time staring at the screen, you will be so involved it will feel like you are actually at the Olympic Games. Just watch out for the riots….

And of course, each character has different skills and specialties. Don’t just choose Peach because she’s a princess and you think she’s kind of cute. Make sure you choose your character with the specific skill you think is required to go for the gold. Because that’s really all it’s about now, isn’t it?

Bonus: when playing on Wii, throw your Mii right into the mix and it will actually seem like you are trying to beat Bowser for the gold medal in the 4*100 relay in rowing. Which sounds pretty cool to me. Who knows, you might just be inspired to go to the real Olympics in a few more years. You’ll probably have to start training now.
